The Boulder Piano Quartet concludes its 2018-2019 season at The Academy with a program of light and dark -"Chiaroscuro"- featuring Mozart's beloved G-minor Piano Quartet, itself a journey from darkness into the light; contemporary British composer Gordon Jacob's attractive Piano Quartet from 1969; and the second Piano Quartet by the Romanian composer Georges Enesco. The rarely performed Enesco quartet, written in the darkest days of the Second World War, is a powerful work, always colorful, full of folk-influenced material, and imbued with Enesco's own particular harmonic and rhythmic language.
